130HP vs 170HP Jet Ski: Which One Should You Choose?

130HP vs 170HP Jet Ski: Which One Should You Choose?

One of the most common questions we get before someone books is which jet ski they should go for. At Sips Water Sports, we offer two options: the 130HP and the 170HP Sea-Doo. Both are great machines, but they suit different people and different experiences.

Here is a straightforward breakdown to help you decide.

What Is the Difference Between the Two?

The most obvious difference is power. The 170HP has significantly more of it, which translates to higher top speed, faster acceleration, and a more intense ride overall. The 130HP is still a proper jet ski with plenty of speed for most people, but it is a more controlled and predictable experience.

Both come with speakers, both are well-maintained Sea-Doos, and both are available for solo riders or with a passenger.

Who Should Go for the 130HP?

The 130HP is the right choice if you are getting on a jet ski for the first time, if you are riding with a younger passenger, or if you simply want to enjoy the coastline and the sea without pushing it to the limit. It is more forgiving, easier to manage at lower speeds, and still gives you everything you need to have a genuinely good time on the water.

Most families and first-timers end up on the 130HP and come back having had a brilliant session. Do not underestimate it.

Who Should Go for the 170HP?

The 170HP is for people who want more. More speed, more power, more adrenaline. If you have ridden a jet ski before and found it a bit tame, or if you just want the most powerful machine available, this is the one. The acceleration is noticeably sharper and the top end is considerably faster.

It is also the machine used for the Blue Grotto Jet Ski Tour, which involves covering more distance across open water. The extra power makes a real difference out there.

Can Two People Ride Together on Either?

Yes. Both the 130HP and the 170HP can carry a rider and a passenger. The 170HP handles the extra weight better at higher speeds, so if you are riding with a heavier passenger and want to go fast, the upgrade is worth it. For a more relaxed two-person ride, the 130HP handles it perfectly well.

Which One Is More Popular?

It depends on the time of year and the type of visitor. Younger groups and returning riders tend to go straight for the 170HP. First-timers and families more often start with the 130HP. There is no wrong answer as long as you are honest with yourself about what kind of ride you are after.
